The clock is excitedly running towards October 12th for the kickoff of Desert Daze.
Running with us are new bands just added to the lineup. Groups like Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Tame Impala, Wooden Shjips, and Idles will now be there and then!
Desert Daze keeps adding weight to both sides of their incredible balance. True breadth in musical style. Transcendental tunes like Slowdive will ride the electric waves with Wooden Shjips, adding to the psychedelic vibes already being brought by Tame Impala.
Interestingly, these choices further reinforce the nostalgia that constructs the festival’s conceptualization. It is clear that a great deal of festival culture stands on the shoulders of giants. Giants all facing forward and toward a past. A history of successful festival staples like Woodstock, Isle of Wight, and Glastonbury characterize the genesis of the contemporary “Festival.”
It is from these festivals that we derive our standards and understanding of what a festival is. Locked in this history, we seek and find the purest of intentions. Before the “Walmartization” of our festival culture, we had stages set up for the sake of music. Crowds gathering for community within the consequence of music. True collectivity in a time that demanded acceptance and camaraderie.
Desert Daze seems to signal a rebirth and recall of the values that first formed festivals. It is therefore no surprise that marketing campaigns paint their aesthetics in pop pink and hippie yellow. Flower power is still powerful! And Desert Daze knows how to wield it. Flash back with us! Highwire Daze wants you to bring a buddy to Desert Daze.
