A Promise To Radiate

A Promise To Radiate

New York-based prog/alt-rock band Radiate is beginning to make a name for themselves throughout the East Coast and beyond. Their debut Human EP was recorded by noted producer Kris Crummett (Sleeping With Sirens, Issues, Alesana) and their recently released single and video I Promise This is garnering the band a good deal of attention and admiration. Highwire Daze recently caught up with Radiate to find out a whole lot more about this band on the rise. Read on…

Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Radiate, and how long the band has been together.
The band has been together as Radiate since 2017 (2 years)
Daniel Louis – Vocals
Will Ford – Drums
Vlad Tipcidi – Guitar
Mikey Feliciano – Bass

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like there?
Brooklyn, New York City. The music scene is fantastic, there is so many people that live in the city that we continue to always have new people come and discover our music.

Is there any overall story or concept behind the lyrics of the song “I Promise This”?
“‘I Promise This” is about two people, in any type of relationship, intimate or friends, making a promise about the trust and loyalty to one another,” the music video idea came about after the song was finished and recorded. Vlad co-produced the overall idea and story line, Daniel was fond of the idea because of his love for classic horror movies and the cinematography of how Alex (Blackwolf Imaging) shoots achieved the vision the band was trying to portray visually.

Where was the video of “I Promise This” shot and who directed it? What was the overall experience like, especially being on location.
I Promise This” was shot in New York City, and Directed by Alex Kouvatsos (Blackwolf Imaging). It was a beautiful spring day in the city, the record store scenes were shot at The Rough Trade and they let us come and shoot before the store opened. It was very casual, funny and always easy and a pleasure working with Alex. He has shot all our music videos and by the time we filmed I Promise This, we were able to get a good flow between action and film.

Select any other Radiate song and what inspired the lyrics.
Human” is another song that has a strong message. The message within the song means “No matter who you are, where you came from, how you were raised or how you live your life, we are all human beings. We are all the same animal we all deserve to live a life the way we want to, we all deserve to get whatever we want out of this life, and you never know what someone might have gone through to achieve their success or destiny.

What was it like working with producer Kris Crummett on your Human EP?
Working with Kris was a teaching and rewarding experience. Each of us were individually put to the test to really bring out our full potential throughout every song we recorded with him. Kris did not want anything but the best of what we could offer, and would not stop until he felt that it was the best we could do. By pushing us out of our comfort zone created a solid and strong sound.

What are you looking forward to your upcoming show at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn?
Meeting a lot of our followers and fans from social media. Being a headliner gives the band the ability to structure a well planned solid performance with lighting, giving the audience the best show we can deliver.

What could one expect from a live Radiate show?
Extreme energy and emotion, a little taste of rock n roll, metal, funk, jazz and pop all types of vibes and a good time.

If Radiate could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Vlad – I would love to open for The Used. I love their vibe and energy with live performance.

DanielDon Bronco, Alazka, Issues, At The Skylines, A Day To Remember because these band’s live performances are amazing, energetic and gives the crowd a reason to connect with the bands.

In another recent interview, I read about a song you did called Home featuring Tobias Rishce from the amazingly underrated Alazka. How did this collaboration come about?
Our vocalist Daniel wrote all the vocals and structure for the song “Home” that Tobias features on. The reason why it happened was because after Daniel had written and recorded the original version of “Home” with his vocals, he could hear and envision Tobias‘ voice and hit him up and asked him. Tobias was down and recorded it for us, and it came out exactly the way Daniel wanted the climax of the song to sound.

What’s up next for Radiate?
We have a few more songs that are not released yet, we aren’t 100% sure if it will all be singles or tied together as an EP. We plan on preforming more as well as doing tours in America. We also plan on going back to Kris Crummet to work on some more new and improved music as well. The journey never ends with Radiate!

Any final words of wisdom?
Here’s a “Lord of The Ring” quote we wanted to share with you guys…

With great responsibility, comes great power” – Yoda

On a serious note, thank you for taking your time to give our band attention, we try to write music for every human, with any taste of style of vibe. Our music is not uniformed and single tracked, its all different and if you might not like one song we wrote, you might like the next, always something fresh from Radiate.
