The Legendary Sounds of Hyro The Hero

Hyro The Hero has spent these pandemic days perfecting his art, and recent auditory collaborations have been with the likes of Chad Gray of Hell Yeah, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, and Brandon Saller of Atreyu.  And now Hyro The Hero presents his next explosive single, the hard hitting FU2 featuring AJ Channer of the almighty Fire From The Gods.  The song is an inferno of emotion that urges the listener to put down their phones, to stop hiding behind hashtags, and to be fully aware of the influence and control that our mobile devices and apps can have on us. The track ultimately encourages us to live in the now.

Having toured with the likes of The Used and Thrice before the age of Covid, Hyro The Hero is anxious to get back to playing live again.  With upcoming appearances at quite a few major festivals, expect to be hearing a whole lot more from Hyro The Hero in the future days ahead.  Highwire Daze recently interview Hyro to discuss the brand new single FU2,  a previous song entitled Legendary, his passion for performing live, and other topics of intrigue.  Read on…

What was the name of the very first song you wrote, how old were you, and what was that song about?
A song called ‘We Bring Heat‘ was my first song with my homies. I learned how to make beats in fruity loops and record in a program called Acoustica. I still remember the chorus lol.

And let’s move on to the crazy modern day pandemic times. Tell me about your brand new single FU2 and what inspired the lyrics. And then tell me how AJ Channer of Fire From The Gods became involved with the song?
FU2‘ is a big middle finger to anyone trying to divide the people. Media is a big part of our society and I feel it has caused a lot of division in these times. AJ got involved since I heard he was coming to make music in Houston. It was perfect timing because we have been planning to work together. FU2 was the perfect track.

Another recent collaboration was with Brandon Saller of Atreyu on the track Legendary. Tell me what inspired that song and how Brandon became involved.
Legendary‘ is my interpretation of the greats welcoming you into the winners’ circle. My goal is to become legendary, and that song is motivation to become it. It was epic to involve Brandon since his powerful voice lets you really feel the energy of it all. I met Atreyu on a Disrupt Tour a while ago and we clicked so well. I’ve had writing sessions with them, and it slowly led to ‘Legendary.’

Who produced these two recent songs and what was it like working with them?
Matt Good produced all the recent tracks that came out. He is amazing; his background is rock and hip hop so we knew we would make some dope music. He was in the band From First to Last with Skrillex and they were epic.

What has it been like to write, record and release new music in the middle of a pandemic and all this social unrest in the world?
I’m just happy to keep busy during these hard times. I tried to make the most out of the situation with releasing music and featuring friends, so I’d have to say the feeling was incredible. Everyone was home so it was cool of them to rock with me.

What are you looking forward to the most about playing the big festivals such as Rock Fest, Louder Than Life, and Welcome To Rockville later on this year?
Being on-stage is what I’m looking forward to. It’s been so long since we been in front of the people so I know I will lose my mind performing. I’m always excited to do festivals so everyone is in for an amazing show.

What could one expect from a live Hyro The Hero show?
Straight up energy is what they can expect. Ima wild man on stage and people will see that fo sho.

What were some of the highlights of touring with The Used and Thrice on the Disrupt Tour in 2019?
Some of the highlights were being around so many people I’ve looked up to. Even though I performed early, I’d look to the side and see many of them watching my show. It was definitely an epic experience on that tour.

If you could open up for any band or artist either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
I would’ve loved to open up for Pearl Jam back in the day. Watching their DVD really took my performances to the next level. I think that would be an insane show.

If your music was a donut, what kind would it be and why?
Cream filled chocolate donut.

What do you hope the rest of 2021 brings for you and for the music world in general?
Shows and more shows.

Any final words of wisdom?
Be 100% about the 99%
