Jensen Gering at The Hotel Café – Live Reviews

Jensen Gering, The Hotel Café, Hollywood, CA., March 25, 2024

Jensen Gering is known for his Nickelodeon show Erin & Aaron that may have only lasted for one season, but left a definite impact on fans all over the world. With a massive following on Instagram at 238K and counting, it’s obvious this 15-year-old entertainer is about to explode into the big leagues. With a recent standout show at the We Care Music Festival at Lucky Strikes Live earlier in the year, Jensen presented to the City of Angels a sampling of his own original songs as well as a few very inspired covers. Highwire Daze was there, and decided to go in for a second round of Jensen Gering and his absolutely amazing talent.

The Hotel Café is world famous as a showcase for singer / songwriters, and Jensen would return to the wilds of Hollywood once more to present a short, yet very sweet set of tunes. Three songs in all, but what an impression Jensen would leave on the near capacity audience! In an interview before the show, Jensen expressed his admiration for John Mayer – and although you can see the influence in his work, there is so much imagination and originality to be found in his vibrantly expressive voice and brilliant guitar playing. Yes, Jensen may be 15-years-old, but his songs and delivery are truly timeless.

Opening with the reflective refrains of original composition Square One, Jensen clearly captured the audience’s attention with a selection that should be all over the radio airwaves. Up next was an inspired cover of Colors by Black Pumas, which Jensen placed a ton of heart or conviction into. And then closing out the set way too soon was another self-penned entreaty entitled Still, showing once again Jensen’s knack for writing a vividly memorable song.  If it wasn’t for the tight scheduling of these Hotel Café showcases, Jensen definitely would have done an encore or three judging by the audience reaction.

It’s only a matter of time before Jensen Gering finds himself signing to a record label and touring around the world. Those who attended his sets at Lucky Strikes and The Hotel Café were surely catching a star on the rise within an intimate setting. It will be exciting to see what the future has in store for Jensen Gering. Watch for our interview with Jensen and pictures from the Jack Lue photo shoot in the May issue of Highwire Daze magazine!
