6 Cylinders at The Cobalt Presents for Bar 10/Corbin Bowl – Live Review
6 Cylinders, The Cobalt Presents at Bar 10/Corbin Bowl, Tarzana, CA., June 21, 2025
There are many amazing young local bands out here in the LA/San Fernando Valley area, and one of the most supportive venues you could find them playing at is the long running Cobalt Presents. Dave Polito has been a promoter on the scene for many years, and The Cobalt Presents is the next chapter of his mission to introduce the world to next great generation of bands. Highwire Daze and The Cobalt have quite a history dating back to the 90’s, and it’s inspiring to see Dave still making a positive impact on our local music scene. Bar 10 at The Corbin Bowl is one of the places The Cobalt Presents books, and on the evening in the otherwise sleepy San Fernando Valley, local indie alternative collective 6 Cylinders was getting ready to rock your world with an impressive selection of original and cover tunes.
Two factors made me super curious to check out this band. First off, their guitarist Milan Mendel was in a thrash metal band called Evisceration, and this gifted young musician shredded into the stratosphere with his guitar mastery that went way beyond his years. And secondly, I did catch 6 Cylinders at an Education Through Music-Los Angeles (ETM-LA) event in Burbank, where they played an impressive acoustic set. When Milan invited me to check out a full throttle 6 Cylinders presentation at a Cobalt Presents show, I happily accepted a chance to spend Saturday night discovering an amazing new talent.
Opening with an imaginative cover of Black Sheep by Metric and then merging into their upcoming single release of Arrows, 6 Cylinders easily captured the undivided attention of each and every audience member. One notices right away the captivating lead vocals of Talulah Shadrick – whether it’s one of their own songs or a reinterpretation of classic indie alternative reveries, Talulah places her own magical take on the proceedings. Talulah would tell later tell me that her inspirations included performers such as Joni Mitchell and George Harrison – and her exquisite live performance definitely exudes a timelessness that is enchanting to watch.
Milan Mendez is definitely a standout – and within the realm of 6 Cylinders, there is plenty of time and space to create a whole world of exciting guitar artistry. I am still absolutely blown away by how talented and resourceful this young musician is. Drummer Dashell Edelstein unleashes some amazing percussive intrigue and even wrote one of their amazing original songs entitled Angel Eyes. Standing in on bass for this particular night was Nate Dumont from Sunday The Band, lending his own massive talents to the 6 Cylinders’ live experience.
Closing the night with their current release Words Like Flowers, 6 Cylinders definitely left an impact at Bar 10, leaving the audience wanting to hear a whole lot more. It will be very exciting to see what the future has in store for 6 Cylinders and their dynamic indie rock soundscapes. Be sure to check 6 Cylinders out the next time they rev up into your town to rock their hearts out.
