The Goo Dolls at The Venetian – Live Review

The Goo Goo Dolls, The Venetian, Las Vegas, NV, May 20, 2026

The Goo Goo Dolls had the audience from the moment the lights went dim.

The energy inside the venue was absolutely magnetic!

A perfect choice of words, considering “Magnetic” is the title of the band’s tenth studio album.

The show was completely sold out, which came as no surprise. More than three decades into their career, the Goo Goo Dolls continue to captivate audiences and prove that their popularity is stronger than ever.

Of course, there have been lineup changes over the years — but what successful band that has survived for over thirty years hasn’t experienced a few? Through it all, the heart and soul of the Goo Goo Dolls remains firmly intact with founder, songwriter, vocalist, and rock icon Johnny Rzeznik and co-founder, bassist, vocalist, and songwriter Robby Takac. Their combined infectious energy and genuine appreciation for their fans filled every corner of the venue throughout the evening.

For fans, the Goo Goo Dolls are far more than just another rock band. Their music has become the soundtrack to countless lives, relationships, memories, and milestones. Their songs have appeared in numerous films and television productions, with the timeless smash hit Iris from City of Angels becoming one of the most recognizable and beloved songs of the modern rock era. Decades after its release, the song continues to connect with audiences of all ages and remains a defining moment in the band’s remarkable career.

The band’s reach extends far beyond the concert stage. Over the years, classics such as Name, Slide, Black Balloon, Broadway, Here Is Gone, Better Days, and Before It’s Too Late have become staples of radio, film, television, and popular culture. Few bands of their generation have created a catalog of songs that continues to connect with fans and inspire new listeners more than three decades into their career.

The setlist was packed with fan favorites, sing-along moments, and emotional highlights that showcased exactly why the Goo Goo Dolls have endured for so long. Johnny Rzeznik’s unmistakable voice sounded phenomenal, while Robby Takac brought his trademark charisma and boundless enthusiasm to the stage. Together, they created a performance that felt both intimate and larger than life.

What makes a Goo Goo Dolls concert so enjoyable and genuine is Johnny himself and the way he connects with the audience. Throughout the evening, his interaction with fans felt natural and heartfelt, reminding everyone why the band has maintained such a devoted following for more than three decades. At one point during the show, Johnny invited the audience to help choose between two of the band’s most emotional songs. The crowd enthusiastically selected Sympathy, which was delivered beautifully and became one of the night’s standout moments.

Of course, no Goo Goo Dolls concert would be complete without the soaring finale of Iris. The iconic song transformed the venue into one massive sing-along, creating a magical moment shared by fans of all ages. Adding to the band’s recent success, Iris continues to receive recognition and acclaim decades after its original release. It was also heartwarming to see Johnny and Robby recently sharing special family moments in the spotlight alongside their daughters, a reminder that beyond the sold-out venues, platinum records, and enduring success, the Goo Goo Dolls remain grounded, authentic, and deeply appreciative of the fans who have supported them throughout their remarkable journey.

From the first note to the final encore, the audience was fully engaged, singing along to every word and celebrating a catalog of songs that has stood the test of time. The Goo Goo Dolls delivered exactly what fans came to see — a world-class performance filled with heart, passion, and unforgettable music.

More than thirty years after their formation, the Goo Goo Dolls remain one of rock’s most enduring and beloved acts. Judging by the reaction of the sold-out crowd at The Venetian, they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. And you’re in luck because tickets went on sale FRIDAY morning for their next tour! Of course I bought ours! Because, they are truly that great. And every fan has a wonderful, cherished, memory, story. Just ask Jake!
