Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Weekend Classic, and how long the band has been together.
Hi, The Weekend Classic is Chris Webster (Vocals, Guitar), Ryan Wells (Guitar, Vocals), & Christian Richards (Drums).

Chris: Christian and I met early on in High School. The Weekend Classic initially started in 2012 but was really just something for us to do on the weekends and was put to the side from time to time. It wasn’t until graduating and meeting Ryan in 2014 that we began to put the band into motion.

Where is the band based out of and what is your local music scene like that?
Christian: We’re from Madison, IN. It’s a small river town hidden in a valley by the Ohio River. There was once a notable DIY/Punk scene but that was before our time. That didn’t stop us from putting together basement/living room shows across town. We began making friends with nearby scenes like Cincinnati, OH – Louisville, KY – Indianapolis, IN and began putting small runs together across the Midwest. It can be easy for bands from smaller towns to be overlooked and we are honestly incredibly fortunate for the first few friends that got us out of town and gave us a chance.

How did you wind up signing to Rude Records?
Ryan: Rude reached out to us about a year prior to us actually signing with them. There were a few paths we could’ve taken, but we felt the most comfortable with Rude. They’ve been supportive of us for a long time and we’re stoked that we get to work together.

Is there any overall story or concept behind the EP title Better Health?
Ryan: The concept for Better Health is finding positivity in negative situations. We strive to learn through adversity and grow as people the best we can.

Select two songs from Better Health and what inspired the lyrics.
Chris: ‘Detached‘ is about how one thing can change the way two people look at each other and how it can happen in the blink of an eye. It’s also about how life can change in the same way, we should know not everything is going to last forever good or bad. ‘Room to Grow‘ is about going through a breakup and having bitter feelings about that said person but deep down you still think and care about that person and want the individual to feel the same.

What could one expect from a live The Weekend Classic show?
Chris: When we play live we try to put as much feeling and energy into our performance as we can and it definitely doubles if the crowd is throwing it back at us.

If The Weekend Classic could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Christian: If it could be any band I think we all would pick Led Zeppelin. We all have a pretty wide variety of taste in music but we have and still bond over their music.

What was your experience like playing the Vans Warped Tour and what are your thoughts about Warped coming to an end?
Ryan: Warped Tour always had a huge influence on the type of bands we listened to growing up, so having the chance to play twice was truly surreal. The fact the we won the Play Warped contest was a dream come true and we wouldn’t be where we are today if it weren’t for Warped Tour and Ernie Ball. It’s a shame that a festival that helps so many young bands is coming to an end but I’m sure something will take its place in the future.

How did your recent tour with Intervention go and what were some of the highlights?
Chris: The tour with Intervention was great. We had some rad shows and hangs with those dudes. They are all some of our good friends now and I hope that we’ll be doing more shows with them soon! One moment that stands out to me was during the last show with Intervention when Drew took his shirt off and crowd surfed in this tiny house that was packed full of people, it was sick!

If the music of The Weekend Classic was a donut, what would it be and why?
Chris: Gonna have to go with Glazed because it’s classic!

What’s up next for The Weekend Classic?
Christian: We have plenty of tour dates coming up for Spring & Summer. In the meantime we’ll be finishing up writing and possibly recording LP1 later this year!

Any final words of wisdom?
Drink a glass of water and spend some time in the sun today. Then go listen to our new EP ‘Better Health.’
