Punky Meadows, the legendary lead guitarist from the iconic 70’s rock outfit Angel, made his way to The Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip on a raging Friday night. With complete band in tow featuring songs past and present to unveil, Punky Meadows and his crew of superb musicians captivated those resourceful enough to venture out into the wilds of the City Of Angels. Those lucky enough witness the handful of Punky dates were in for an amazing show – you could feel the excitement in the room as Punky/Angel fans waited patiently through an interesting collection of local acts – and when the main event arrived as the Midnight Hour, the heavenly rock and roll euphoria on display catapulted through the roof and into the stratosphere.
Kicking off the night the almighty Rock And Rollers from the debut self-titled Angel 1975 release, Punky and his troupe had the audience singing along. Other fan favorites such as Feelin’ Right, Wild And Hot, and Don’t Leave Me Lonely clearly brought back vivid memories while demonstrating just how timeless and vibrant the Angel catalog of tunes remain to this very day. In addition to all of the songs from days gone by, Punky Meadows was celebrating a stunning new album entitled Fallen Angel, treating the audience to a glorious amount of entreaties such as The Price You Pay, Straight Shooter, and Home Wrecker.
In 2017, Punky Meadows in a guitarist at the very height of his craft, skillfully delivering the tasty Angel licks as well as selections from the next great chapter of a brilliant career still going strong. And what a sight it was to see Punky make eye contact with many of the audience members, and warmly smile and acknowledge the fans who ventured out to show their unwavering support. In addition to Punky’s superb guitar work, the entire membership was absolutely amazing. This would include the wondrously vibrant work of vocalist Chandler Mogel, who unleashed the Angel tunes and Fallen Angel material with passion and conviction. Danny The Farrow on rip-roaring rhythm guitar complimented Punky’s trademark style of playing. Charlie Calv supplied a terrific atmospheric dynamic on keyboards while bassist Keith Roth and drummer Bob Pantella unleashed a thunderously tight and seismic rhythm section. And to the side of the stage providing those wonderful backing vocals and rocking dance moves was the dynamic duo of Barbara Serbes and Amy Anderson. There was a lot of talent wedged within the confines on The Whisky stage and they all delivered the goods in an epic way!
Closing with the exhilarating Shake Shake and then unleashing a staggering rendition of Tower in the encore, Punky Meadows and his band left The Whisky attendees absolutely enraptured! Another landmark night on the Sunset Strip that fans of Angel and Punky Meadows will remember for the rock and roll ages ahead!
