Within Silence: Strength and Metal Abound!
Within Silence present their own triumphant brand of melodic power metal that will inspire the mind as well as pummel the senses. Based out of Slovakia and ready to unleash their dynamic music upon the world at large, Within Silence recently presented Return From Their Shadows – their second magnum opus via Ulterium Records. Highwire Daze Online recently caught up with drummer Peter Gacik to find out a whole lot more about this mighty head banging collective. Read on…
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Within Silence, and how long the band has been together.
We are a melodic power metal band from Slovakia formed in 2008 by lead guitarist Richard Germanus and the singer Martin Klein. I am the drummer (Peter Gacik) and I joined the band in 2013 alongside with our second guitarist Martin Čičo and our previous bass player Filip Andel.
Where is the band based out of and what is your local metal scene like there?
We are from Slovakia. Our base town is Kosice. The metal scene here is following the trends of other European countries. People are busy, so for them it’s really difficult to find some extra time for a concert. But on the bright side, they eventually come if they really like you. I feel that we are one the more fortunate bands here in Slovakia, because people here in our hometown do show up, if we are playing a concert here in Kosice.
How did you wind up signing with Ulterium Records?
Well there is a story connected to signing to Ulterium. Around the year 2013 when I joined the band we were called Rightdoor. At this point we were rehearsing a lot and we were basically a garage band. Everything started to change around the year 2015, when we have decided to release our debut album Gallery Of Life. We played a show in our hometown Kosice in 2014 with Theocracy and the promoter of the show liked us. He decided to give us contact information to a Swedish label called Ulterium Records, which is the same label company that Theocracy is signed for. The producer of the company liked our first album and decided to release it via the label. Short after that we changed our name to Within Silence.
Is there any overall story or concept behind the album title Return From The Shadows?
The whole idea was, that this album should carry on our legacy, lyrically and ideologically, from the first one. The people coming together towards the light symbolizes humanities initial need to find God and peace. Even if we as people sometimes try to defy this feeling, most of us eventually comes to peace with this notion and accept our fate. You don’t have to be a Christian and there is a good chance that one day you will find peace and accept your life as it is.
Select two songs from Return From The Shadows and what inspired the lyrics.
If we take Heroes Must Return for example. The music video is about a boy called Patrik from Poland. His parents suffer from serious health issues and he dedicates his life to help them. So, the song is about everyday heroes like Patrik, because we are convinced that this world needs more of everyday heroes like him.
Calling From The Other Side is a song about a very bad recurring dream that our guitarist Richard had. It was disturbing and scary because he had this really strange feeling of guilt when he woke up. This bad dream eventually passed away. So, the song reflects the feeling and his way of overcoming this bad experience.
Who did the cover art for Return From The Shadows and how much input did you have on it?
Our current and our last artwork was made by Jan Yrlund. He listened to the songs and he came up with this idea which we liked.
What could one expect from a live Within Silence show?
Positive feelings and energy from first to the last second of the show. Our music is full of melodies and positive lyrics where everyone may find himself.
Has Within Silence ever played here in the States or plan to do so in future days?
No we have not played a show in the US yet. Hopefully, because of Ulterium Record we will play there one day /or two 😊
.
What are you looking forward to the most about your upcoming show with Brainstorm?
Meeting with Brainstorm our German fans and also with our collegues Signum Regis, that are also from Slovakia. It will be a great honour to play with these bands on one stage.
If you could open for any band either now or from the past, who would it be and why?
Hmm, there are several bands on my mind, but Iron Maiden, Helloween, Stratovarius and Sabaton are the bands that influenced us the most, therefore I think that it would be one of these bands.
What is your favorite beer of choice and why?
This question is hard to answer, but I prefer Czech beers like Pilsner Urquell, Budweiser-Budvar or even Dutch like Heineken. The reasons are simple, you can buy it everywhere so no extra effort is needed 😊 The taste is good, at least for me.
When you look back on your first album Gallery Of Life, what do you think of it now?
The Album was more straight forward, but I wouldn’t change it in anyway, even today. The first album has been recorded under some limiting circumstances and it’s like our first child, and we are really proud of it.
What’s up next for Within Silence?
We are preparing for a few shows in Europe – Slovakia, Czech and Germany, including summer festivals. We are also adding some finishing to our live performance. We are hoping to meet with our fans on the shows and collect some feedback on our new album. And maybe we are starting to think about our next record. Who knows 😊
Any final words of wisdom?
I hope that the fans will like the new album and it would give them strength to go thru their lives. I am looking forward to meeting our fans on our upcoming shows. Till then, take care!
