The Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip is always a terrific place to discover new talent – and on a Thursday night in the wilds of West Hollywood, one would witness a showcase performance of Sofya Wang taking place at the legendary nightclub. A multi-talented singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, Sofya Wang and her band presented an enlightening selection of imaginative pop rock entreaties for a packed and very appreciative crowd. Opening with the vibrant refrains of Need Ya followed by the alluring Money Power And Fame, one could encounter right away Sofya Wang’s rapturous voice captivating all those in attendance. With an easy going personality, sultry material, and the penchant to explore the vast realm of pop music, Ms. Wang and her band would present an absolutely spellbinding performance.
In addition to the enchanting and reflective original material, Ms. Wang and company would unveil a stunning rendition of the Lana Del Rey tune Video Games – rendered all the more captivating when Sofya sang while playing a cello, demonstrating another glorious side to her talent and ingenuity. In addition to Sofya’s expressive and liberating performance, her band exhibited a good amount of style and flair, featuring the participation of Logan Ellis Sheppard of Love Past Blue on drums, Gene Micofsky on guitar, Jon Alvarez on bass, and Rex Perry on keys. The night would conclude with Boys Aside – an inspiring anthem of discovery and sensuality destined to garner Ms. Wang a good deal of attention, and perhaps a hit single too.
It will be exciting to see what the future has in store for Sofya Wang. Judging by the flowers that overtook the stage throughout Ms. Wang’s memorable performance, expect to be hearing a whole lot more from this dynamic talent ready to creative sparkling waves and glorious vibes within the pop rock genre.
