The Goo Down at Knucklehead – Live Review

The Goo Down at Knucklehead – Live Review

The Goo Down, Knucklehead, Hollywood, CA., November 14, 2024

The Goo Down took place at the Knucklehead club in Hollywood on a Thursday night in November. Curated and co-headlined by artist on the rise Danny Goo, the festival featured quite a few up-and-coming artists on two different stages, making for a remarkable night to remember. There is no doubt that many of the artists and bands on the bill are destined to go on to even bigger endeavors in future days. But for those who made their way to rock at The Goo Down, it was a great chance to discover a brand-new favorite performer.

ForgetXTomorrow

The first band I saw taking to the main stage at The Goo Down was ForgetXTomorrow. An up and coming pop punk collective based out of Corona, ForgetXTomorrow made their way into Hollywoodland and captivated the early arrivals with a thoroughly energetic set!

Welcome To The Party was certainly the kickoff anthem for The Goo Down. Another standout was the moody and dramatic Hate Me Too, a currently unreleased song showing ForgetXTomorrow at their most compelling and imaginative.

Lead vocalist Jordan Palani oozes charisma and front man star appeal, and really captures your attention with a super lively performance. Guitarist Adrian Uriostegui aka Wave rocked it out with a skill and precision while bassist Cristian Cuppetelli and drummer Marcello Castillo made for an intensive rhythm section! What a terrific way to kick off the night!

HollowedbyYesterday

From The Goo Pit inside to The Goo Deck outside to see what was going on there. The Goo Deck features quite a few talented rappers and solo performers.

Highwire Daze caught up with HollowedbyYesterday, an absolutely dynamic performer who combines an intriguing darkness in with his superbly catchy tunes. Premiering a blistering live rendition of the recently issued Rosewater single as well as a whole lot of unreleased material, HollowedbyYesterday captured your attention and made you want to experience a whole lot more of what this artist on the rise has to offer.

A very intimate, in your face presentation from a super passionate artist, expect to hear a whole lot more from HollowedbyYesterday in the New Year.

Trophy Boy Poems

Back inside to The Goo Pit to check out the amazing Trophy Boy Poems. I caught the tail end of their set a few months ago at the notorious Viper Room, so it was terrific to see an entire performance.

Trophy Boy Poems presents emo rock and rage in a world where Iggy Pop clashes with My Chemical Romance – a superb amalgamation of influences all brought together by a brilliantly imaginative stage presentation. Songs such as Slowly Changing, Slip Away, and Round And Round left an indelible impression.

Sound problems kept a good set from becoming a great one, but there was still enough brilliance and intrigue emitting from the stage to warrant another visit into the realm of Trophy Boy Poems.  You could bet this reviewer will be back for more!

Clancy

The star performer of the night was definitely Clancy, the sole female vocalist on The Goo Down who delivered a thrilling, heartfelt performance. Unveiling songs filled with empowerment and introspection, Clancy presented a high-quality set of tunes that left quite an impact on the audience.

What’s life without a threat, I’m gonna make a mess and cause a scene,” sang Clancy on opening song Puppet. Hey Mom then followed, another powerhouse pop rocking entreaty that left quite an impact. Other standout selections included Crooked, Issues, and Colorblind.

An absolutely brilliant singer / songwriter who knows how to deliver a song with passion seething combined with witty in between banter with the audience, Clancy is well her on way to headlining shows above and beyond the LA music scene. Looking forward to seeing Clancy perform again in the future!

Danny Goo

It was time for the namesake of The Goo Down to take to the stage, and Danny Goo delivered a solid set of pop punk rocking tunes. I’ve seen Danny Goo perform a few times now – and even with running the entire night and dealing with all of the unpredictable a show promoter has thrown at them – when it was time to perform – Danny Goo unleashed one of the best sets of his career!

Opening with the anthem-like Cut My Hair, Danny Goo had the audience singing along and having the time of their lives. There was even a connection made where Danny Goo stage dived into the audience and was carried all around the venue as he sang his heart and soul out.

So many great songs were performed, including All I See Is You, Like Heroin, and especially Out The Front Door – a single that was being released on Spotify on the very same night Danny premiered it at The Goo Down. Danny Goo was a revelation at The Goo Down, and it was exciting to see a massively talented and imaginatively resourceful artist at the very height of his creative energies.

Luke Reyvn

From Kauai, HI into the wilds of Los Angeles, CA arrives Luke Reyvn, another one of the co-headliners at The Goo Down – and what a brilliantly impressive set he and his band delivered. Looking like a rock superstar with the talent and great songs to back it all up, Luke Reyvn delivered a impressive selection of tunes that kept the night rocking away! The first song BFN! (Best Friend Now) reverberated throughout Knucklehead, sounding like a massive hit single in the making.

One of the highlights was the live premiere of the recently issued single Falling Away, and what treat it was to see collaborator Grant Kemp performing with Luke live. Such an impactful song unleashed with a good amount of conviction by two amazing artists!

Another song Adrenaline definitely pumped up the crowd. A five-song set overall, short yet very sweet, and definitely leaving the audience wanting to hear a whole lot more. Expect a Luke Reyvn explosion in the New Year – definitely a thrilling artist not to be missed.

There was a sense of community at The Goo Down that really made this entire event standout. Approachable artists and very appreciative fans within an inviting, very intimate setting. All this, and Danny Goo was gooed by a fan too! It was a night to remember! Congrats to Danny Goo on coordinating this amazing festival of talent. Can’t wait to attend The Goo Down 2!
