The legendary Dimmu Borgir swept into the City of Angels for the final night of The Grand Serpent Rising North America 2026 tour, transforming The Novo in Downtown LA into a cathedral of shadow and spectacle. The Norwegian extreme‑metal titans commanded the sold‑out venue with a sweeping performance that honored every era of their dark and glorious legacy. It had been many years since Los Angeles last witnessed Dimmu Borgir onstage, and the band responded with what felt like the symphonic black‑metal extravaganza of a lifetime.
The blackened celebration ignited with Ulvgjeld and Blodsodel from their new Grand Serpent Rising masterwork, instantly establishing a tone of ritualistic grandeur and nocturnal intrigue. From there, the congregation was ushered back into the somber corridors of 1997’s iconic Enthrone Darkness Triumphant as the band unleashed the malevolent force of Mourning Palace. The journey continued into the revered realms of 2001’s Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, where Kings of the Carnival Creation rose with its regal, cinematic soundscapes fully intact.
Dimmu Borgir pressed forward with a victorious gospel of staggering hymns, each delivered with precision and ferocity. The crowd responded with rapture — a roaring, unified devotion befitting the final night of the tour. This was more than nostalgia; it was Dimmu Borgir operating at the absolute height of their legacy, every member performing with tremendous authority and impact.
Selections such as Stormblåst, Reptile, and Puritania reverberated throughout the room, each presented with fevered conviction by the Dimmu horde. And the unforgettable night reached its apex with the sweeping, apocalyptic refrains of Progenies of the Great Apocalypse, sending fans into an ecstatic haze only Dimmu Borgir can conjure.
As the final notes dissolved into the LA night, one truth remained: Dimmu Borgir did not merely perform — they conquered. Here’s hoping these iconic purveyors of darkness return to our treacherous shores again soon.
