On Saturday I received a last-minute assignment for a live review, and as soon as I found out who the band was, I immediately accepted the assignment. I first had the opportunity to see The Guitar & Whiskey Club in August of 2024 when they had a show at The Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood. This was my second opportunity to photograph them, and actually submit a live review to Highwire Daze Magazine.
They are an LA based rock band that was founded by Jeffrey Donovan, lead guitarist in 2016. A high energy band, with an edgier rock sound. They have had some amazing opportunities opening for some bigger bands including LA Guns, The Iron Maidens, and Dokken to name a few – and on this night they were supporting the legendary Angel!
The GWC members include Jeffrey Donovan – lead guitarist, Mark Prudeaux – singer, Frank Yanno – bassist, and David Carbajal – drummer. Their set on Saturday night included original songs including Sleazy, Hey, and Does Your Dog Bite, as well as one cover song.
They all brought their passion to the stage on Saturday night, and their entire set was purely enchanting. I loved watching each of them draw themselves into their instruments and entertain the crowd, and you could tell the crowd loved them. The singer Mark is exceedingly a pure powerhouse crooner, add in Jeff who is immensely gifted on shredding on the guitar, Frank who put his own unique sound on his bass, and then David who tied it all together on the drums. It was a performance I will never forget.
