Berlin at The Canyon Club – Live Review and Photos
Berlin at The Canyon Club, Agoura Hills, CA, December 8, 2018
I have been watching bands from the 80s come and go, but one of my favorite bands to come back is Berlin. Fun fact, Berlin reunited thanks to a TV show on VH1. Frontwoman Terri Nunn has since been touring and writing new music with members past and present. The Christmas season brings about a special set for the band, and it creates a night to remember for the crowd.
Sexy, charming, energetic, and charismatic are a few terms I heard from fans in the crowd when describing Terri Nunn and her performance Saturday night at Agoura Hills Canyon Club, and I won’t argue any of these. Nunn and Berlin put on a show that will make anyone get up and dance. She engages the crowd constantly, while interacting with her bandmates; and her outfits are always stunning, as long as the pink dress and red hair stays buried in the closet.
Over the last year original members David Diamond and John Crawford have joined Berlin back on stage, and this has made an already amazing show a must see. Diamond tonight hung up his guitar to play keyboard, filling in for Dave Schulz. No worries though, the keyboard cat will be back on keys next weekend, and Diamond back on guitar! Crawford is a joy to watch on bass, and it’s wonderful to see him lending in vocals with Nunn during certain songs.
So what can one expect during a night with Berlin? Expect a high energy performance from the band. Chris Olivas (Drums) will make sure you feel the beats and get you moving. Carlton Bost (guitar) and David Diamond (guitar) are a blast to watch on stage, adding their own flavor to original synth new wave sounds. John Crawford (bass) you can tell has nothing but pure joy performing again, and his joy is contagious. Expect to hear classics such as No More Words, Masquerade, Take My Breath Away, and of course Metro. The set includes some new music. A fan favorite song live is Dancing in Berlin, where the band invites fans to come and dance on stage, and get a unique vantage on the show. Lastly, what would Berlin holiday shows be without a few holiday themed songs? A few rotating holiday classics are played with a Berlin twist, that will put anyone in the holiday spirit.
Berlin has two holiday shows left! Be sure to attend one (or both), and experience the show for yourself!
